Richard Gürtler ..."Gates Of Mercy" are unlocked and the listener slowly dives into more massive and immense sound fields, where utterly sublime passages are carefully tied with slightly more intense, wealthily evocative, but gentle cascades. Magnificently immersing, 16-minute long masterpiece transports us into warmly heartwarming and tranquilizing sonic paradise. Certainly the ultimate highlight of "Sojourner" proving the bravura of its creator, most likely my all-time fave composition by this Floridian...

If you are craving for serenely drifting dreamscapes, always emotionally rich, Phillip Wilkerson is the guy you can definitely bet on!!! To me, "Sojourner" is the pinnacle of his extensive list of recordings. And if you still prefer rounded silver objects like me, Phillip Wilkerson's complete CDr discography is available at very friendly prices via Kunaki, so make sure to explore it and get ready for deep listening sessions!!!

"…a time-stretching suite of six classic ambient pieces that, in coursing along as slowly as they do, allow us as listeners to slow down as well…a beautiful release, another must-hear from Mr. Wilkerson…

John Shanahan ~ Hypnagogue Music Reviews

"...the theme of this album should be (and maybe is) tranquillity...these tracks have a lightness to them, like a peaceful sunset in a rural place..."

Allister Thompson ~ Make Your Own Taste

"...smooth gliding textural landscapes offering lots of subtle nuances and emotional depths...one can almost feel the gentle glow of sun rays on your skin...an immersive lullaby to caress the mind."

Bert Strolenberg ~ Sonic Immersion

"...elegant...unhurried expressions of a better life...expressions that surround you with their warmth...expressions of comfort and of peace..."

Thomas Mathie ~ Headphonaught

"...serenely drifting dreamscapes...Sojourner is the pinnacle of [Wilkerson's] extensive list of recordings..."

Richard Gürtler ~ Discogs

"...Phil Wilkerson is a master in the art of drawing ambient music forms and Sojourner amply shows it..."

Sylvain Lupari ~ Synth&Sequences

"...a smooth and buoyant float amidst long sweeping drones reminiscent of drifting on large ocean waves, as the music ebb and flows in a brilliant tension and release..."

StillStream ~ Featured Release 9/2013

Liner Notes:

I composed Sojourner with the focused intention of specifically offering listeners a collection of imaginative and meditative quests that, hopefully, will take you to the deep listening and being zone within your listening space. And with every subsequent listen, perhaps even achieving a different experience by allowing the musical odyssey itself to be your destination.

Additionally, Sojourner explores new levels of emotional intensity and tension without dipping into Dark Ambient. So while the music offered here explores a richer emotional intensity, I hope it also still conveys the positive spiritual undercurrents and musical signature associated with my previous Light Ambient efforts.

Finally, I added the self-directive: "Go as slow as you can go." My intention with the patient blooming of these tracks is to explore the musical character, nuance, expression, and emotion that unfolds by holding the music to a slower pace--such as a breathing pace or the pace of waves washing onto a seashore. Sojourner is about ambient music that is focused, emotionally warm, and visceral, yet evenly paced for highly concentrated and deeply contemplative aural journeys.
